Industrial Textures follows the path along which Peter Slager connects his many years of experience in book and type design with his search for a personal language architecture. His background, in which language played a major role, forms a quiet layer underlying this exploration. The artist recognises something of the same charged monumentality in industrial constructions as in the cathedrals of his youth. Their forms offer space for new ideas about language, rhythm, and origin, in which his musical preferences also resonate. Translating these structures into collages and new letterforms allows a visual language to emerge that conveys meaning even without words. This art book presents Peter Slager’s development step by step and invites the viewer to observe how language, image, and origins can influence one another.
